Upcart includes a template-based cart creation flow that lets you start with a pre-designed cart style and select the modules you want to include. This is a faster alternative to building a cart from scratch.

How to create a cart from templates

You can access the template flow from two places:
  • All Carts page — Click Create cart, then select Create from templates from the dropdown menu.
  • Empty state — If you have no carts yet, click Start from templates in the empty carts view.
During onboarding, you are also prompted to design your first cart using templates at the end of the setup flow.

Step 1: Select a base style

The first step shows a grid of pre-designed cart styles. Each card displays:
  • The style’s name
  • A wireframe preview of the cart layout and color palette
  • Color swatches for the template
  • The font. The four built-in styles don’t set one, so they read Inherits from theme — only the live-theme card names an actual font.
Select a style by clicking on it. The live preview panel on the right updates to show how your cart will look with that style applied. If Upcart can detect your Shopify theme’s colors and fonts, a Your Live Theme card appears at the top of the grid. Selecting it applies your theme’s colors, fonts, and button styling to the cart automatically. When you are happy with your selection, click Next.

Step 2: Select modules

The second step shows a set of recommended modules you can include in your cart. Each module card displays an image and a short description. Click a module card to toggle it on or off. You can add or remove modules at any time later in the cart editor. Available modules include:
  • Upsells — Present targeted upsell offers to increase order value
  • Rewards — Incentivize customers to add more to their cart with reward tiers
  • Recommendations — Show AI-powered product recommendations to boost AOV
  • Add ons — Let customers add complementary products with a single toggle
  • Announcements — Display promotional banners and messages at the top of the cart
  • Subscriptions — Offer subscription upgrades directly in the cart drawer
When you are done, click Save as draft. The cart is created as a draft and you are taken to the cart editor to continue customizing and publish when ready.

After creating your cart

Once the cart is created, it opens in the cart editor where you can:
  • Adjust colors, fonts, and layout in the Design module
  • Configure each module’s settings
  • Publish the cart to make it live on your store
