Overview

While Upcart includes a built-in preview feature that lets you view the cart on your live theme without publishing it (found in the top-left corner next to Cart Status), there are cases where you may need to test it directly within the theme editor.
Steps to Follow
  1. In the Upcart Cart Editor, ensure your cart is published.
  2. In your Shopify Admin, go to Online Store → Themes.
  3. On your Live Theme, click Customize → App Embeds and confirm the Upcart Bridge is disabled. Save if you made any changes.
  4. On your Draft Theme, click Customize → App Embeds, enable the Upcart Bridge, and click Save.
  5. Click the three-dot menu in the top-left corner of the theme editor and select Preview.
Success! Upcart is now active only on your Draft Theme. Any changes saved in the Upcart Cart Editor will be visible there without affecting your Live Theme. Here’s a quick tutorial walking you through these steps: Draft

Important Notes

  1. As outlined in the Quickstart Guide to Upcart, activation requires two parts:
. Enabling the app in the Upcart interface. . Enabling it in your theme’s app embeds. Upcart will not activate in the backend unless it is also enabled in your live theme’s app embeds. You will need to temporarily enable Upcart in both your live and draft themes before activation. Once activated, you can safely disable the Upcart Bridge on your live theme.
  1. If you have triggered rewards configured in your cart, those discounts will remain active via Shopify’s discount system even when the app embed is disabled.
Disabling the app embed only hides the Upcart cart drawer from your storefront — it does not disable triggered rewards discounts. Customers will still receive triggered rewards discounts at checkout.
