When creating or editing a post-purchase offer, you have several configuration options to customize how the offer appears and behaves. This guide covers the key settings available for V2 post-purchase offers.

Clicking a widget in the preview to edit it

On V2 post-purchase offers, you can open a widget’s settings directly from the offer preview instead of hunting for it in the sidebar list.
  • Image and video slots — If an image or video widget has no content uploaded yet, the preview shows a placeholder prompt in its place. Click the placeholder to open that widget’s settings.
  • Text and timer blocks — Click any rendered text or timer block in the preview to jump straight to its widget settings.
Clicking a widget in the preview switches to the Editor tab and opens the correct settings panel automatically. This feature is available on V2 post-purchase offers only.

Searching offer settings

The post-purchase offer editor includes a Search settings box at the top of the left sidebar. You can use it to quickly find any setting across your offer without scrolling through each section manually. As you type, results are grouped:
  • This offer — shared settings within the offer’s existing widgets. Selecting a result switches to the relevant widget, opens the section, and jumps directly to the field.
  • Upsell product 1, Upsell product 2, … — on a multi-product offer, each product’s own settings get their own group, ordered by placement.
  • Add widget — widgets not yet added to the offer. Selecting a result adds the widget and opens its settings.
  • Funnel settings — links to funnel-level pages such as triggers, targeting, A/B testing, translations, and analytics.
Empty groups are left out, so a search that matches nothing per-product simply shows the other three. This feature is available on V2 post-purchase offers only.

Custom order tags

You can add a custom tag to any V2 post-purchase offer to track which specific upsell a customer accepted. When a customer accepts an offer with a custom tag configured, that tag is automatically applied to their Shopify order alongside the standard “AfterSell Upsell” tag.

Why use custom order tags?

Custom order tags give you more granular tracking and help you:
  • Identify which specific upsell offer was accepted
  • Segment orders by promotion or campaign
  • Filter orders in Shopify by upsell type
  • Track performance of different offers within the same funnel

How to add a custom order tag

  1. Navigate to Post-purchase Funnels in the Aftersell admin.
  2. Select the funnel containing the offer you want to tag.
  3. Click Edit offer on the offer you want to configure.
  4. In the offer settings, find the Order Tag field.
  5. Enter your custom tag (up to 40 characters).
  6. Click Save.

Tag requirements

  • Maximum 40 characters
  • Can include letters, numbers, hyphens, and spaces
  • Must follow Shopify’s order tag requirements

How custom tags are applied

When a customer accepts an offer with a custom tag configured:
  • The standard “AfterSell Upsell” tag is applied to the order
  • Your custom tag is also applied to the order
  • Both tags appear in the order details in Shopify
  • You can search and filter orders by your custom tag in the Order Browser
Tip: Use descriptive, consistent naming for your tags. For example: “summer-promo-accepted”, “bundle-upsell”, “vip-offer”, “clearance-upsell”.

Per-offer configuration

Custom tags are configured per offer, not per funnel. This means:
  • Different offers in the same funnel can have different custom tags
  • You can track exactly which offer in a multi-offer funnel was accepted
  • Each offer’s tag is independent and can be changed without affecting other offers

Product selection and discounts

When configuring your offer, you can:
  • Select specific products or use automatic recommendations
  • Apply percentage or fixed-amount discounts
  • Add product badges (like “Bestseller” or “New”)
  • Configure subscription options if applicable

Setting a discount

When configuring a discount on your offer, you set two separate fields:
  • Discount type — choose between % Off and <CURRENCY> Off, where <CURRENCY> is your store’s currency code (a USD store sees USD Off).
  • Discount value — enter the amount. The field shows a % suffix for percentage discounts, or your store’s currency code as a prefix for fixed-amount discounts — USD, not $ — so the unit is always clear.
A live preview line appears beneath the value field showing how the discount applies to a sample product price — for example, “If your product is $50.00, customer pays $40.00 (saves $10.00)”. If you have a specific product selected on the offer, the preview uses that product’s price instead of the sample price. Percentage discounts are capped at 100%. If you enter a value above 100%, or switch from a fixed amount to a percentage while the value exceeds 100%, the value is automatically reduced to 100%.

How the discount is displayed

Post-purchase offers have no separate display-format setting: the saving a shopper sees follows the Discount type you picked above. A percentage discount shows as a percentage, a fixed-amount discount shows as a money amount, and an offer never shows both at once. For the display rules on other surfaces — the Thank You Page has its own format setting, and Checkout Upsells can hide the savings text entirely — see Customizing discount displays.

Rounding rules for percentage discounts

When displaying a percentage discount, Aftersell rounds to the nearest whole number (standard round-half-up rounding). For example:
  • A discount of 39.56% will display as 40%
  • A discount of 39.44% will display as 39%

Offer design and messaging

Customize how your offer appears to customers:
  • Add custom text and headlines
  • Include countdown timers for urgency
  • Configure product images and layout
  • Match your brand’s checkout styling
